When I first learned about self-love, I was all in. The idea of focusing on myself, taking care of my needs, and putting myself first seemed perfect. My nighttime routine was flawless, I treated myself to all things special, and every decision depended on my mood, comfort, and preferences.
But soon, I realized I was stuck in a shallow version of self-love. The self-love I saw on YouTube and social media was just surface-level fluff. I was always looking for the next face mask or the trendiest café, frivolous purchases, constantly seeking that quick fix of happiness. I kept trying to patch things up with material possessions, hoping they would make me feel better. I was stuck in a cycle of overconsumption, thinking it would solve my deeper issues and inadequacies, but nothing changed.
True self-love isn’t what social media makes it out to be. It’s not just about the rosy picture; it’s about facing yourself honestly. It’s about truly seeing yourself first, even the parts that are hard to accept.
It’s about identifying the areas where you need to grow and those you need to let go.
